Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Serbia

The Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Serbia fully supports the justified demands of the Education Trade Union of Serbia, which, due to the poor material and social position of employees in education and the lack of social dialogue, has announced a protest for tomorrow, September 26 in Belgrade, in front of the Serbian Parliament building. The Education Trade Union of Serbia, together with other representative trade unions in education, is organizing a protest and a protest rally, and if their demands are not met, a strike in schools with shortened classes to 30 minutes is planned from October 9. The trade unions are demanding that the starting salary of teachers in primary and secondary schools with a seventh-level qualification be equalized to the average salary in the Republic, that the scope of school administration be reduced, and that what is agreed upon in the social dialogue between the trade union and the Ministry of Education, i.e. the Government of Serbia, be respected. The fact that the trade union's demands are justified is evidenced by the increasingly difficult material position of employees in education from year to year. The average salary in education, with an increase of 5.5 percent, plus 10 percent, will not reach the level of the average salary in the Republic in 2024, and is currently 11.8 percent lower than the average consumer basket for June 2023.
